United open talks over new Rashford contract
Manchester United have initiated new contract discussions with teenage forward Marcus Rashford and are optimistic of securing a five-year contract for him.
The England international’s current contract at Old Trafford is set to expire in the summer of 2024, after United recently activated a one-year extension clause in his previous contract. The club is currently attempting to reach an agreement with Rashford that would see him commit his future to the Red Devils until his early 30s.

Rashford, 25, is anticipated to receive a boost in his weekly income of £200,000, but the club is unwilling to go above the £300,000 mark for any contracts in order to reduce wage discrepancy within their ranks and make their outgoings more sustainable.
United’s new approach to pay follows the disastrous high-money deals given to Alexis Sanchez and Cristiano Ronaldo. Casemiro earns a premium salary of £300,000 from United, whilst goalkeeper David De Gea’s 2019 contract saw him earn a stunning £375k per week, which was reduced by 25% this season after the team failed to secure Champions League football.

United are now said to be starting contract talks with Rashford’s representative, his brother Dwaine Maynard, with all parties confident that an agreement can be reached. Rashford has eight goals in seven games since the World Cup, in which he scored three times for England.
“He is really important. You have seen from the first day I’m in [the club],” United boss Erik ten Hag said of the striker last week. “I’ve been really pleased [with him]. Definitely, I don’t want to lose him. He’s in our plans and he will stay at Manchester United.”

United are aware of interest in the 25-year-old, who has already scored 16 goals this season. Nasser Al-Khelaifi, President of Paris Saint-Germain, stated last month: “He’s a player that is amazing. We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and there was interest.”
Rashford was applauded by teammate Bruno Fernandes after Saturday’s derby win over Manchester City, with the Portugal midfielder stating: “He is one of the best players in the world. Not just now — he was in the past — he will now be in the present and even better in the future.”
