Pope’s New Year’s Address Sidelines yet another section of Believers

The head of Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis has yet again left believers divided on the church’s customs, after urging the world to champion for the ban of surrogacy. The act (surrogacy) which allows couples to obtain children through a third party parenting has seen another setback after the ‘holy father’ termed it a mockery to the child and the mother.

The Pope, who was addressing the members of the Diplomatic Corps at Vatican, pointed out that surrogacy is a grave violation of the dignity of the woman and the child, calling it deplorable.

This puts the Catholic Church in another global discussion on what would become of the believers, and what their actions would be on the recent ‘teachings’. Three weeks ago, the Pope had urged the catholic priests to bless union between two couples of the same gender, a move which seem to be in support of the LGBTQIA+ course.

The move has since been criticized by a section of catholic priests, saying it goes against the Biblical teachings. The critics argue that same sex marriage is a mockery, and forbidden by the church’s customs and teachings,thus blessing such couples would be a grave sin.

The Pope’s New Year’s address was full of calls for an end to conflicts around the world, the head of the worldwide Catholic Church said: “The path to peace calls for respect for life.”

He said surrogacy is a form of human trafficking since the real biological parents of the kids would ‘sell’ their offspring to another couple, or a third parent.

With the life of the unborn child in the mother’s womb, which cannot be suppressed or turned into an object of trafficking.

The Pope said

In this regard, I deem deplorable the practice of so-called surrogate motherhood, which represents a grave violation of the dignity of the woman and the child, based on the exploitation of situations of the mother’s material needs.

A child is always a gift and never the basis of a commercial contract. Consequently, I express my hope for an effort by the international community to prohibit this practice universally.

He added.

It should be noted that in June 2022, the Pope called for a ban on surrogacy, claiming it’s humane and unfair. Surrogacy is legal in some countries including the USA, Belgium, Canada the Netherlands, Brazil and United Kingdom, just to mention.
